Kairos Program Overview

High School Youth Program — Integrating Earth and Action

Kairos: Kairos time is usually perceived as a time of crisis; a propitious moment for decision or action; One has the choice of danger or opportunity, a chance to build something new out of the old. Kairos time bridges the tearing down of the “old way” with the building of a “new way.

The Stepping Stones Project is proud to announce the creation of its new High School age youth program. Building upon the success of the Middle School Coming of Age Program, the High School youth program offers teens a space to deepen their connection to themselves, their peers, their community and the world around them.

The goals of Kairos Center are to:

  • Educate individuals and communities about the Earth's natural systems
  • Acknowledge the current ecological crisis as a context for understanding and as a call to immediate action.
  • Provide training and tools for understanding and participating sustainably in the Earths natural systems.
  • Use the tenets of ecological design to develop, promote, and implement ways to creatively respond to ecological and social imbalances.

Programs range in length from day-long workshops to year-long mentoring groups; all share the same goals and guiding principles: to support youth in becoming their authentic selves, and to offer teens the inner resources and outer skills needed to engage fully and respond effectively to our world of change, crisis and potential.

All programs incorporate four powerful, complimentary areas of learning:

  1. Self: Developing personal awareness, intellect, and agency
  2. Community: Recognizing and honoring our inherent interrelationship
  3. Earth: Deepening Intimacy with earths living systems
  4. Action: responding to ‘our moment’ in service of necessary cultural  transition
