James Amutabi Haines
I was born and raised between Baltimore, MD and Oakland, CA. I am a multimedia artist who expresses my craft through the mediums of sound, the written word, paint, video, music, digital editing, and collages. I began cultivating my vocational vision 20 years ago during my first experience as a co-facilitator for a group of high school-age youth struggling with addiction. I have ten years experience facilitating workshops on issues of oppression and six years experience facilitating mindfulness workshops in Juvenile Detention facilities and truancy programs around the Bay Area and five years experience in Theatre of the Oppressed practices through classes and facilitation. These experiences have taught me that the intersections of social justice, art, community, and creativity are where we encounter our personal and collective liberation. I have found that empowering the creative spirit present in all of us allows creation to bring more beauty, decadence, complexity, and intimacy in one’s life. I believe that who we are is our art: our movements, our stories, our breath, our choices are the ways we sculpt the masterpiece that is our life. The art that comes through me is a reflection of my inner and outer questing, the people I have held community with, and those who have impacted me through their stories. I am looking forward to going on adventures with my Stepping Stones boys group this year! James Amutabi Haines Website: www.clnnow.us |
