Tom Watson wants all of us to become more fully human. For him that means claiming all parts of our humanity, regardless of them being labelled masculine or feminine by others. This desire to experience and share the full spectrum of the human condition has led Tom many places; in the pursuit of diverse masteries; to places where we can see the best and the worst of people; and to cultures and lands far from his own.
Tom grew up in Canberra, Australia. He survived eleven years of catholic education before flourishing at Narrabundah in the public school system, completing the International Baccalaureate program. After a gap year of travel, camp-counseling and working on organic farms, Tom commenced a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) program at the Australian National University. Graduating at the end of 2007, Tom worked for the Australian Government as a geospatial intelligence analyst, including a stint in Afghanistan in 2012. Tom began his transition to the Americas in 2013, motorcycle touring through the West of the USA and learning how to code at Dev Bootcamp. Tom continues to work in the geospatial industry, currently helping to build the cloud infrastructure that will support the navigation of autonomous vehicles.
A recent graduate of the Interchange Counseling Institute, Tom is excited to create a space for adolescents to explore what it means to be part of this broad community called humanity. Growing up in Australia, he has had many adventures out in the mountains, fields, forests and waters of the world. Since moving to Oakland, these adventures and explorations have included more urban and internal dimensions.
Ultimate disc shaped many of Tom's experiences in his twenties, taking him across the world and even into the final of a World Club Championship. His primary physical mastery is now dance. He taught himself to dance while deployed to Afghanistan, as a mental reset in that unique environment. That sharply accelerated his dancing and he continues to deepen his art: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOUJX8K7U10
